Approximately 45% of the satellite's elements were developed domestically, highlighting Egypt's growing expertise in satellite technology.

The Egyptian Space Agency (ESA) is gearing up to launch its latest remote sensing satellite, NExSat-1, in November 2023, marking a significant milestone in the country’s space endeavours, according to a report by Cairo Scene.

NExSat-1 is the result of a collaborative effort between the Egyptian National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) and Germany’s Berlin Space Technologies (BST). The satellite was meticulously constructed and underwent testing at EgSA’s Satellite Assembly, Integration, and Test Centre. Approximately 45% of its components were locally engineered, underscoring Egypt’s increasing prowess in satellite technology.

Notably, ESA achieved a major milestone in December 2022 with the successful launch of EgyptSat 2, a satellite developed in partnership with China. EgyptSat 2 is dedicated to monitoring climate patterns and trends in African nations, with a focus on addressing climate change challenges by monitoring emission rates.

These projects are significant steps towards achieving self-reliance in space science technology and satellite manufacturing within Egypt, with a broader objective of extending these capabilities across the African continent.
